Capacity Building

The objective of this position is to support main-stream service providers and migrant groups by building their capacity to develop, communicate and respond to each other needs. This will be done through two ways:

1. Train and support mainstream providers to initiate changes in the way that they provide services to migrants, asylum seekers and refugees:

Development and delivery of an Inter-cultural Awareness and Education programme to a wide range of service providers in the Limerick area to enhance inter-cultural sensitivity that will ultimately lead to improved service provision for new communities
It is envisaged that the training will equip service providers with knowledge, understanding and motivation to develop and review their own policies, practices and procedures supported by Doras Luimní

2. Train and support migrant groups to represent themselves and work together to make their voice heard

To work with local migrants groups to build their own capacity for an independent migrant political voice in Limerick, separate from the voice of Doras:

To run a series of capacity building and educational training courses for migrants

To work with local and national migrant and mainstream networks to ensure a co-ordinated and united strategy

To support the emergence of new migrant groups, and bring them together with existing groups through the establishment of a Migrant Forum

To work at a policy level to ensure the effective inclusion of the migrant voice at all levels of society
